Other

During my career, I have worked in a variety of other industries as follows:

Education

Royal Holloway College is one of the four largest multi-faculty colleges of the University of London. It is one of the UK’s premier Research led universities. The approximately 8,500 students study largely at the Egham, Surrey, campus that has accommodation for approximately 3000 on site

As Director of Operations, I was accountable for all the operational and administrative services of the College. My direct reports included heads of the following functions; IT, Finance, HR, Academic Registry, Facilities Management, Library Services, Development, Research & Enterprise, External Relations and Royal Holloway International. The College’s expense base was approximately £120 million and there were in excess of 800 Administrative staff

Apart from the day to day running of the functions, I focused principally on:

  • Professionalisation of the management of the functions,
  • Developing strategies to combat the economic downturn,
  • Playing a leading role in the merger process with St George’s University of London

 Staffing services

  • For Manpower, the Milwaukee, WI based staffing services provider manufacturer, full time participation in their Project Titan that examined non personnel related costs only and delivered a sustainable annualised earnings impact in excess of $100 million (15% reduction in non-personnel related costs and a 25% improvement in EBITDA). Led the reduction in costs for all Manpower’s European countries (>65% of the company’s cost base), notably France, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Benelux and the Nordics

Government

  • For the Ministry of Agriculture and London Borough of Croydon, full time project management of the implementation of financial and management information systems based on Dun & Bradstreet packaged software
  • For Breckland District Council, an Information Technology Strategy Study

 Sport and Leisure

    • For Tottenham Hotspur FC, implementation of the first ticketing and management information systems to be used in the football industry in the UK
    • For the Football League, a feasibility study on controlling hooliganism by means of reciprocal membership schemes
    • For COOB 92, project management of the design, development and implementation of the Results System for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. This £25 million project was successfully completed against the most extreme time critical conditions

Retail

  • For Sainsbury plc, part of a team that implemented enterprise wide operational and management information systems
